Itinerary

DAY 1

USA, TEL AVIV
As we depart from the USA on our flight to Tel Aviv, Israel, we embark on a life-changing adventure

DAY 2

TEL AVIV, BEER SHEVA
Upon arrival at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport, we will be greeted by our expert guide.  Israeli guides are legendary for their knowledge and dedication. Ours will escort us to the many biblical sites we will visit over the next ten days, and instruct us concerning their relationship to the religion, history, archaeology, culture, and modern day life in Israel. We will proceed south to Beer Sheva, once the southern- most border of the Israelite kingdom. Much biblical history took place here.  Abraham dug a well, Isaac built an altar, Jacob had a dream about a stairway to heaven, and Elijah hid from Jezebel, all at this location. Dinner & overnight in Beer Sheva.

DAY 3

BEER SHEVA, DEAD SEA
Today we will journey into the Negev Desert to follow in the footsteps of Moses as he led the Children of Israel through the wilderness.  We will stop at the place where the Edomites disrupted their voyage, (Numbers 20:14), forcing them to turn east and travel into the Zin Desert. From Kibbutz Sde Boke, the retirement home and final resting place of Mr. David Ben Gurion (the First Prime Minister of Israel), we will be able to view the Zin River, a wadi that creates a fertile valley through which the Children of Israel traveled.  We will stop at Ein Avdat, a mountain canyon with lush vegetation and spring-fed waterfalls that provided both water and rest during their long, hot journey. From the top of Mount Avnon we will have a spectacular panoramic view of the Ramon Crater, the largest erosion crater in the world (measuring 40 km. long and 9 km. wide) with unparalleled geological formations. We will descend through the Akrabim (Scorpion) Heights, mentioned in Joshua 15:3 and used as an important pass for the ancient spice routes. Dinner and overnight at Hotel in Ein Bokek at the Dead Sea.

DAY 4

DEAD SEA, MASADA, NOKDIM, DEAD SEA
Today we leave for the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve.  It was in this lush oasis along the shore of the Dead Sea that David hid in caves from the wrath of King Saul (1 Samuel 24:1). After hiking up the hillside and enjoying the waterfalls, we will continue our journey to Masada, the mountaintop site of one of King Herod’s magnificent palace fortresses. It was here in 70 CE that 960 heroic Jewish Zealots made their last stand against the Romans, choosing to take their own lives rather than become slaves. We will ascend by cable car to view the amazing excavations, then descend on foot via the Roman ramp. We will travel from there to Nokdim Village where we shall be hosted in a Bedouin tent and served a Bedouin meal, similar to those served 4000 years ago by Abraham (Genesis 18:1). We will learn how God used the desert as a training school for Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses. We will return to our hotel in Ein Bokek with plenty of time for a “Swim and Float” in the Dead Sea. Dinner and overnight at the Dead Sea.

DAY 5

DEAD SEA, OUMRAN, GALILEE
We will begin our day at Qumran, the site of the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered and once the home of the Essene scribes. We will continue to the Monastery of St. George near the Keret River where the Prophet Elijah hid from King Ahab and Queen Jezebel and was fed by ravens (1 Kings 17:5,6). We will continue to Katzar El Yahud on the Jordan River. It was here that Joshua led the Children of Israel across the river into the Promised Land (Joshua 3:1), and the Prophet Elijah was taken to Heaven in a whirlwind (2 Kings 2:11).  This is more than likely the site where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:13). On our way to the Sea of Galilee we will visit the amazing ruins of Beit Shean, one of the Ten Roman Cities where Jesus taught and on the walls of which were hung the bodies of Saul and Jonathan (1 Samuel 31:8- 10). Dinner and overnight near the Sea of Galilee in Tiberias.

DAY 6

GALILEE
We begin the day at the summit of the Arbel, a cliff that offers spectacular, panoramic view of the Sea and northern Galilee.  From here we can view many of the places where Jesus ministered. We will descend to the shores of Tabgha, and the location of the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes (John 6:1-14). We will travel to Capernaum, where Jesus lived and taught for much of his three years of ministry.  We will walk through the remains of a synagogue from the 4th century and visit Bethsaida, the third most mentioned place in the Gospels. We will watch the sun set from a fishing boat on the Sea of Galilee. Dinner and overnight at the Sea of Galilee in Tiberias.

DAY 7

GALILEE
We start the day at Tel Dan. Here, a gate made of mud bricks and dating back to 1750 BCE (the time of Abraham), has been excavated.  It is possible that Abraham entered this gate when he rode into Dan to rescue his nephew, Lot (Genesis 14:14).  We will travel north to the Banias (Caesarea Philippi) to see the Grotto of Pan.  From this cave at the foot of the Mount Hermon flow the headwaters of the Jordan River.  During Old Testament times, it was the site of grotesque Baal worship.  During Jesus’ time, it was a place where many Hellenistic gods were enshrined. It is believed to be the spot where Peter identified Jesus as “Chirst, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16: 13 -16). We will continue to the Golan Heights where we will gain a better understanding of its significance to the history and future of the state of Israel. Dinner and overnight at the Sea of Galilee in Tiberias.

DAY 8

GALILEE, JERUSALEM
Today we leave the Galilee and make our way up to Jerusalem. We will visiting the following biblical sites: Cana (John 2), Nazareth (Luke 1 & 2), Megiddo (1 Kgs. 9:15; Rev. 16:16), Mt. Carmel (1 Kgs. 18), Caesarea Maritima (Acts 9 & 25), and then onto Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

DAY 9

JERUSALEM
We will ascend the Mount of Olives for a breathtaking view of the city of Jerusalem. We will spend some time at the Garden of Gethsemane with its ancient olive groves, then journey on to The City of David. We will visit the House of the Authors of the Kings of Judah, where clay seals of Gemaryahu Ben Shafan (mentioned in Jeremiah 36:10-12) were discovered. We will continue on to the tunnel known as Hezekiah’s Tunnel, which leads from the Gihon Springs to the newly excavated Pool of Siloam. Here Jesus healed the blind man (John 9:1-11). We will visit the Upper Room thought to be the location of Jesus’ Last Supper with His disciples.  We will finish our day enjoying the tranquil setting of the Garden Tomb with its empty sepulcher. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

DAY 10

JERUSALEM
Today we will visit the Temple Mount and the Western Wall (Wailing Wall), the most sacred site in the Jewish world. We will walk up the Southern Steps, the actual steps that Christ used when he entered the Temple.  We will spend some time in the Old City, making our way to St. Anne’s Crusader Church, the Pools of Bethesda, the Sisters of Zion Convent (to see the Pavement where Jesus stood as he was tried by Plate), and the Ecco Homo Arch.  We will continue along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.  Later, we will drive through the mountains of Jerusalem to see farming was accomplished during biblical times and learn about the formation of mountain springs. Farewell Dinner and late evening transfer to Tel Aviv Airport, our guide or local representative will assist us with the check-in procedures, and we will board our flight back to the USA. Those taking the extension overnight in Jerusalem.

DAY 11

JERUSALEM, USA
We will arrive with memories from our visit to the Land of the Bible that will remain vivid for the rest of our lives!
