Itinerary
DAY 1 – NOVEMBER 16 - DEPART USA
Tour members connect in Philadelphia to depart for Tel Aviv as a group (others will connect directly in Tel Aviv). For those of us connecting in Philadelphia after take-off we will be served dinner. Dinner and overnight onboard out flight.
DAY 2 – NOVEMBER 17 - ARRIVE INTO TEL AVIV
Arrive into Tel Aviv and transfer to hotel for the remainder of the day. Dinner and overnight in Natanya.
DAY 3 – NOVEMBER 18 – JOPPA, CAESAREA, MOUNT CARMEL, GALILEE
Morning tour begins by traveling to the old city of Tel Aviv known as Jaffa or the Biblical city of ‘Joppa’ (Acts 9-11). It was in Jaffa that Peter brought Tabitha back to life, and had his miraculous vision at the house of Simon the Tanner that all foods (and all people) were clean in God’s eyes. This is also the location that leads to the conversion of Cornelius and many Gentiles. Then we will continue our drive north along the Mediterranean coast to Caesarea, once a proud Roman port dating back to the time of Pontius Pilate. Then to the Sea of Galilee stopping at sites along the way such as Mt. Carmel (Carmel is not a place to hide from God-Amos 9:3). Continue to Tiberius for dinner and overnight.
DAY 4 – NOVEMBER 19 - MOUNT OF BEATITUDES, CAPERNAUM, BOAT RIDE ON THE SEA OF GALILEE, JORDAN RIVER
Arise early to view the sunrise on the Sea of Galilee (optional)! It’s a breathtaking experience. After breakfast we’ll leave for our first stop at the Mount of Beatitudes. Near this site, Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount, taught on frequent occasions, and preformed many miracles. Here, Larry will lead us in a time of teaching as we sit on the Mount of Beatitudes over looking the Sea of Galilee. We will spend some time on the mountainside to pray and reflect on God’s word. Next we travel to Capernaum, the city where Jesus lived during most of His ministry. Here were the homes of Peter, Andrew, James, and John. Then we drive to Tabgha, the site of the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fish. Followed by a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee with a time of worship; then we depart for the Jordan River where we will have a time of reflection and an opportunity to be baptized (optional). Back to Tiberias for Dinner and overnight.
DAY 5 – NOVEMBER 20 - BEIT SHE’AN, THE JEZREEL VALLEY/MEGIDDO, JERUSALEM
Traveling to Jerusalem through the Jezreel Valley gives us the opportunity to visit Biblical sites along the way including Beit She’ an, expansive archeological ruins of an ancient city inhabited for 5000 years where King Saul was killed and one of the Roman cities through which Jesus passed during travels from Galilee to Jerusalem. Another important site in this valley is the ancient city of Megiddo, which is now reduced to a tel (hill) consisting of 26 layers of ruins. This is also the site referred to in the book of Revelation as the Valley of Megiddo (or ‘Armageddon’) where the last Great War will take place. Continue to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.
DAY 6 – November 21 - MOUNT OF OLIVES, PALM SUNDAY ROAD, MT. OLIVES, GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE, JEWISH QUARTER, TEMPLE MOUNT, SOUTHERN STEPS and more
Behold the breath-taking panorama of the Holy City from the Mount of Olives! Our pilgrimage today will proceed down the Old Palm Sunday Road to the Garden of Gethsemane with its ancient olive grove, and the Church of Agony, where tradition holds that Jesus prayed. Enter Jerusalem through the Zion Gate, and walk to the holiest site in the whole Jewish world, the Western Wall (Wailing Wall) of Herod's temple. Beyond the wall lies the 35-acre temple area purchased by King David (2 Sam. 24:18-25). On this site now stands the magnificent Dome of the Rock (the third holiest shrine in all Islam) and the El-Aksa Mosque. Then to the Church of the Holy Sepluchre, followed by a short walk to the Southern Steps where Larry will lead us in a time of teaching. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
DAY 7 – November 22 - MASADA, DEAD SEA
Following the road south along the western shore of the Dead Sea includes a stop at Masada, the fortress built by King Herod. Ascending the area by cable car, visitors are able to survey the ruins of the fortifications, waterworks, synagogue, temples and palaces. We will then make a special stop at the Dead Sea (also referred to as the lowest spot on the earth) for a short swim/float. Please be sure to bring water/closed end shoes, as the bottom surface can be rough. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
DAY 8 – November 23 - SHRINE OF THE BOOK, MODEL CITY, THE CHURCH OF ST. PETER IN GALLICANTU, GARDEN TOMB (Golgotha)
A full day of sightseeing with a visit to the Shrine of the Book Museum, for a viewing of the Dead Sea Scrolls followed by a look at the interesting model of Jerusalem (1 to 50 scale model of Herodian Jerusalem as it would have appeared in Jesus' time). This day also includes visiting the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, followed by a visit to the Garden Tomb for a time of reflection, communion and teaching by Larry. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
DAY 9 – November 24 – BETHLEHEM, PARTIAL FREE DAY IN JERUSALEM, THANKSGIVING CLEBRATION
Today we will travel to Bethlehem passing by Rachel's tomb on the outskirts of Bethlehem, and a visit to the Church of the Nativity and Shepherd's Field. The remainder of the day will be free for exploration, followed by a private Thanksgiving Dinner celebration in the hotel. Overnight in Jerusalem.
DAY 10 – November 25 – JERUSALEM FREE DAY OR OPTIONAL TOURS, DEPART FOR USA
Today will be a free day to explore local sites such as the Old City, the four quarters, or take a walk down the Via Dolorosa, believed to be to be the last route of route Jesus (the 14 stations). There will be optional planned tours (entrance fees not included) to the Western Wall Tunnel, Hezakiah’s Tunnel, or Holocust Museum. After dinner we will return to our rooms to prepare for our group departure back to Tel Aviv then our overnight flight back into Philadelphia on November 26, 2010.
The close of an unforgettable tour ~ hopefully bringing lasting memories of the Old and New Testament, a renewal of faith, and a greater understanding of the life and ministry of our Lord.
